Battle of the Books, 2023-2024 is coming soon! For now, people wanting to join should read up on the books this year and next year. (Though it is best to read them early.) Referencing what Ms. Breding, a first time BOTB coach, said about the preferred minimum reading, it is recommended that each student wanting to join should read 3 books minimum. At most, students should read all 16 books. It is possible! The 3 book minimum is actually more lenient than last year. The reasoning for reading a minimum of 3 books is so that you can actually answer questions that come up in the competition. We can’t have clueless team members after all. Also, it should be said that it is planned that the final team of students will be expected to go into the schoolwide competition, rather than keeping it to just this school like last year. Teams are usually made up of four, maybe five students. Often a competition is held in the school to get the most advanced team. To finish off, here is the list of all the 6-8th grade BOTB books:
Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna, by Alda P. Dobbs
The Benefits of Being an Octopus, by Ann Braden
The Blackbird Girls, by Anne Blankman
The Boys in the Back Row, by Mike Jung
