Chess is a board game based on logic and skill. It was made in India. One of the first masters of the game was a Spanish priest named Ruy Lopez. Chess Club is fun because you get to exercise your brain and make friends at the same time. We even have our own chess prodigy named Ethan Otis!
I’ve interviewed Emmaline Williams, a 7th grade member of the chess club. The first question I asked as, "What inspired you to join chess?” She said, “My Dad taught me how to play a few years ago and I don’t get to play much at home so I come here to play with friends. I’ve been playing for about 3 or 4 years, I haven’t been in any chess competitions, and what I like about chess is it’s completely strategy based, and not any luck. I like that the games often take a while so they can be a real time burner. I usually open with a pawn freeing the bishop, or a beginning knight play.”
Chess is a really fun game that can be played mostly anywhere. It exercises your brain and it’s fun. So grab some friends and pick up a chess board because that’s how I was inspired and maybe you can be too.
